Thanks to all who came out on a sunny and brisk April morning. Thankfully it warmed up nicely by the time most of the 120+ riders went off. We did have some timing issues that were sorted out after the fact. Technology is a real time and labor savior but isn’t always perfect. Fortunately the judges still do hand recorded results as a backup which helped verify the results:
We were really bummed the Inaugural Harwood Classic had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic but understand it was necessary at that time. For the June Church Creek Time Trial, we delayed opening of registration to June 1 and have held out hope the improving situation with the pandemic would allow us to hold the June Time Trial, but we have just heard from our permitting authorities (Dorchester County and the Maryalnd State Highway Administration) that they will not allow us to hold this event on June 29. As a result, we are forced to cancel the June event. We will keep an eye toward the August Event based on the situation on the ground.
The registration for the Church Creek Time Trial on June 29, is now open.
Discounted Fee Deadline: Saturday, Jun 15, 2019 at 12:01 AM ET.
Online Registration Deadline: Wednesday, Jun 26, 2019 at 11:59 PM ET
New for 2019: The Mens and Womens category 4 and category 5 now have a “non aero” option. Prizes will be awarded for category 4 and 5 overall (all aero and non-aero riders together) and for the subgroup of non-aero riders, but will be one field per category for USA Cycling reporting purposes. Non-Aero requirements are no: time trial or triathlon bikes, aero helments, shoes covers, clip on bars, skinsuits (jersey and shorts must be separate garments) wheels deeper than 40mm, or foil shaped tubes/bars. The event organizer reserves the right to determine specific eligibility based on equipment.
Another Church Creek Time Trial is in the books. The collaboration between ABRT and Phase Cycling for this year’s event was great and big thanks to the volunteers who support this event. We couldn’t do it without you. Thanks to the competitors who came out on a very hot day to test their skills against this true, speed time trial. The results in PDF form are posted on the event page along with podium pictures (mostly Juniors). Get ready for the late summer edition on August 18. Look for the bike reg page opening soon.
Be sure to note your start time and keep in mind the Approximate Transfer Times. Please allow ample time to ride from the middle school to the start line. The following table should help you determine the minimum amount of time your transfer will take. Do not overestimate your average speed during your transfer as traffic and wind conditions may adversely affect your transfer time. Obey all traffic laws while riding to the start line. The event staff will supply a synchronized clock at the exit of the middle school parking lot to assist riders.
Parking: Parking will be provided at the Mace’s Lane Middle School, 1101 Mace’s Lane, Cambridge, MD 21613. No participant parking will be allowed at the Start / Finish Areas. Parking along either Route 355 / Route 16 may result in receiving a parking citation from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department. The Park & Ride area will be reserved for Event Staff, Emergency Personnel, and USAC Officials ONLY. Time trial participants who park in the Park & Ride will be disqualified and will forfeit all awards and prizes. Parking will not be allowed in the Church Creek volunteer Fire Department parking area.
Thanks to all who braved the weather today to make it out to the Time Trial. True to the spring we have been having, the rain began in ernest at about race time and came down hard for the next 3 hours. But the officials did a great job of getting everyone off on time and reports were that riders warmed up a lot once underway.
